Rishabh Pant Takes Down Controversial Dream11 Ad

Dream11's advertisement featuring cricketer Rishabh Pant is drawing major flak on social media for allegedly insulting Indian classical music. After classical musicians Kaushiki Chakraborty and Purbayan Chatterjee criticized the commercial on Twitter, filmmaker Hansal Mehta has now slammed the same.Calling it "disgusting and disrespectful," Mehta, on Saturday, demanded the immediate removal of the ad through a post on Twitter.

Amid polarizing conversations around his form on the field, Rishabh Pant recently drew flak from musicians over the controversial Dream11 advertisement. Following the outrage, Rishabh Pant removed the promotional ad from his Twitter.

The swashbuckling wicket-keeping batter has been in the news lately for some unfortunate reasons. From her social media spat with Urvashi Rautela, to his poor form on the cricket field, to the Dream 11 controversial ad, Pant has been receiving flak, left, right and center.

It all started when Pant took to Twitter and shared the promotional ad featuring him impersonating a Indian classical singer. The ad sees him wondering about an alternate career, where he is on the stage, and sings out-of-tune, a move, which is being considered to be making mockery of Indian classical music heritage and its singers.

The ad ends with Pant snapping back to reality, and saying, “Thank God maine mera dream follow kia”.

Netizens on social media remained outraged at the ad, and Pant was the one to be criticized. Filmmaker Hansal Mehta also took to Twitter and said – “This is a disgusting and disrespectful commercial. Pimp yourself but not at the cost of ridiculing art and it’s rich traditions. I demand that @Dream11 pulls this down.”

In a comment, filmmaker Sudhir Mishra also opined, “Let the ad remain as a monument to their stupidity”.
