Netizens on social media remained intrigued at the video of a UFO-like cloud formation over a high-rise building in Turkey. The visuals surfacing on the internet is reminiscent to 1996 Hollywood film Independence Day where UFOs started appearing in skies and over large buildings across the world. According to reports, the cloud formation is known as a lenticular cloud.
Earlier on January 21, Twitter user Byron J. Walker took to the social media platform and shared stunning and intriguing visuals from Turkey. “#Turkey an unusual dawn this morning. Footage of a rare natural phenomenon called #UFO lenticular/spying foehn clouds,” his tweet read. As per reports, the UFO (unidentified flying object) like cloud formation remained in the skies for as long as an hour, prompting locals to crowd the streets and enjoy the sight.
Meanwhile, netizens on Twitter reacted in their own way to the UFO-like cloud formation. “it looks like an OG iPod,” a Twitter user commented. A second Twitter user wrote, “Are you certain that’s a cloud and not an interstellar invasion?”, meanwhile, a third user commented saying, “Man those craft need to work on their cloaking devices! Lol”.

For the unversed, lenticular clouds are “lens-shaped orographic wave clouds form when the air is stable and winds blow across hills and mountains from the same or similar direction”.

Recently, locals in Turkey were left stunned as they looked at the skies above. Above them, loomed a huge cloud with an eerily similar resemblance to how UFOs (unidentified flying objects) have been depicted in various movies over the years.
Many locals also pulled out their phones and recorded the beautiful yet intriguing phenomenon of the circular clouds floating in sky with orange hue colouring the entire scenery in bright colours.

As per Metoffice website, “These lens-shaped orographic wave clouds form when the air is stable and winds blow across hills and mountains from the same or similar direction at different heights through the troposphere”.
The Metoffice website have also given reference to UFO in its description and has stated, “They look a lot like the traditional shape of flying saucers in science fiction, and real lenticular clouds are believed to be one of the most common explanations for UFO sightings across the world.”
